What each certification or program is, who needs it, and why it matters.
VMSMA Sugarhouse Certification
The Vermont Maple Sugar Makers’ Association sugarhouse certification — a voluntary program recognizing clean, well-run sugarhouses. Worth having if you sell retail or open your doors; buyers and inspectors both know the seal.
Vermont State Maple Rules
Vermont’s state rules for maple: density, grading, and labeling requirements that apply to anyone selling syrup in or from Vermont.
FSMA Qualified Facility
The FDA’s qualified-facility status under the Food Safety Modernization Act. Qualifying keeps smaller producers under simplified requirements — but you must attest annually and keep the records to back it up.
MOFGA Organic Certification (Maine)
Organic certification for Maine producers through MOFGA Certification Services — covering forest management, sap handling, processing aids, and recordkeeping.
NOFA-NY Organic Certification (New York)
Organic certification for New York producers through NOFA-NY Certified Organic — covering forest management, sap handling, processing aids, and recordkeeping.
VOF Organic Certification (Vermont)
Organic certification for Vermont producers through Vermont Organic Farmers (VOF) — covering forest management, sap handling, processing aids, and recordkeeping.
